Sensoji Temple, Kaminarimon, Nakamise

Senso-ji Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo, is a must-see sightseeing spot in Tokyo. Popular among foreign tourists, the temple is crowded with people trying to take pictures in front of the large paper lanterns of the Kaminarimon gate.


Nakamise-dori, which runs from Kaminarimon, is lined with long-established souvenir and Japanese confectionery stores, as well as sweet stores perfect for eating and walking. The best place to try Asakusa’s specialty, ningyoyaki (doll-shaped pancakes). One of the best ways to enjoy Asakusa’s famous ningyo-yaki is to compare them at several stores.

Imado Shrine

Imado Shrine, located in Asakusa on the banks of the Sumida River, is popular among women as a power spot for marriage.

The temple is also said to be the birthplace of beckoning cats. In addition to the Imado-yaki beckoning cats, which are a couple of cats standing in a friendly line, many cute cat ornaments welcome visitors to the temple grounds. Cute original red seal stamp books with beckoning cats on them are also popular.

Sumida Ward

Tokyo Sky Tree ®, Tokyo Solamachi

The 634-meter-high Tokyo Sky Tree® is the new landmark of Tokyo tourism. With the Tokyo Solamachi shopping center, planetarium, aquarium, and other facilities spread out at its foot, it is a sightseeing spot where one can spend a whole day and never get bored.


The interior of the Sky Tree elevators is the center of attention. There are four types of elevators representing the four seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter, and the “summer” elevator has an Edo-kiriko decoration depicting a firework display on the Sumida River. Sumida Edo Faceting Museum

In addition to introducing the history and production process of the traditional Japanese craft of Edo faceting, this workshop store offers a simple hands-on experience (by reservation only) of Edo faceting, which can be done by one person. Visitors can also directly observe the craftsmen’s skills through the store window.

The wide variety of goods on display, from artists’ masterpieces to everyday items, makes it a great place for Tokyo souvenir shopping.

Edo-Tokyo Museum

Opened in 1993, this facility introduces the history and culture of Edo and Tokyo in Ryogoku. The permanent exhibition rooms on two large floors are divided into the Edo Zone and the Tokyo Zone, where many reconstructed models and reproductions of documents are on display.

The magnificent dioramas are so elaborate that not only children but also adults can enjoy them.

Kokugikan (name of a newspaper publisher)

The Kokugikan is where the Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament is held three times a year in January, May, and September. It is a mecca not only for sumo fans, but also a must-visit place if your schedule permits.


The Sumo Museum, which exhibits materials related to sumo, is attached to the museum, and can be enjoyed even outside of the sumo tournament period.

Ameya Yokocho (Ameyokocho)

An energetic shopping street that stretches from JR Okachimachi Station to just before Ueno Station, with about 400 stores crammed like a maze along the side of the viaduct and under the guard.

Everything from fresh fish to food, clothing and sundries can be found here at extremely low prices.
There is also a wide variety of gourmet food available, so be sure to visit when sightseeing in Tokyo.

Taitung District

National Museum of Western Art

Located in Ueno Park, this museum specializes in Western art. In addition to its large collection of works by Monet, Rodin, and others, the museum’s always talked-about special exhibitions are not to be missed.


The main building of the museum has been registered as a World Heritage site as a component of “Le Corbusier’s architectural works – Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Architectural Movement.

National Museum of Nature and Science

A comprehensive science museum where visitors can learn systematically about evolution from the birth of life to the development of man, the history of the universe, and plants and animals. The 18-meter-long skeletal specimen of Apatosaurus on the dinosaur exhibit floor is a powerful sight.


In addition to the permanent collection, there are also special exhibitions on a wide variety of themes, and the exhibits are so extensive that it is impossible to look around the museum in a single day.

Tokyo National Museum

It is the oldest museum in Japan and houses more than 110,000 items, including various historical, art and archaeological materials collected from Japan and other parts of Asia.

There are also a variety of restaurants and museum stores, so it is recommended to take a break and look around at your leisure.

Ueno Onshi Park

Ueno Park is one of Tokyo’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots. Shinobazunoike Pond is a popular spot where visitors can experience nature in the heart of the city, with its abundance of ducks and other waterfowl, and lotus flowers that bloom in clusters during the summer.


The park is also home to one of the few Starbucks Coffee concept stores in the country.

Ueno Zoo

The Ueno Zoo is home to 3,000 animals of about 300 species, including the cute giant panda. This urban zoo is located in the heart of Tokyo, yet is overflowing with nature. By recreating the animals’ original habitats, visitors can observe them in their natural habitats.

Bunkyo Ward

Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine has a history of 1,900 years and is designated as an important cultural property.

The azalea garden in the precincts of the shrine is filled with 3,000 azalea plants of about 100 varieties, and is crowded with tea stores and stalls from mid to late April, when the azaleas are at their best. The Senbon Torii, located to the left of the Omotesando entrance, is a beautiful sight worth seeing.

Katsushika Ward

Shibamata Teishakuten approach

Shibamata in Katsushika is famous as the setting of the movie “Otoko wa Tsuraiyo. The approach to Teishakuten, which was formed between the late Meiji and Taisho periods, still retains the same streetscape as it did in those days, lined with long-established restaurants and souvenir stores.

Walk through the streets that look like a movie set while eating rice crackers and grass dumplings.

Katori Shrine, Kameido

Katori Shrine in Kameido, near the Sky Tree, is the “God of Sports Promotion” with a history of over 1,000 years. It is a famous shrine where many people, from participants in general sporting events to athletes, come to pray for victory.


The “Katsuya Festival,” which originated from an ancient event that pacified the rebellion of Taira no Masakado, continues to the present day, with a parade of warriors dressed in armor and helmets every year on May 5.

The beautiful Tokyo Station is a restored red brick station building from when it first opened about 100 years ago. It can be seen as you exit the Marunouchi Central Gate.
Tokyo Station Ichibangai, with about 100 stores spread over the first and second basement floors of the Yaesu Central Exit, is a great place for dining and shopping, including “Tokyo Character Street” and “Tokyo Ramen Street,” as well as for selecting souvenirs.


KITTE Garden, the rooftop garden of KITTE Marunouchi, a commercial facility that opened on the former site of the Central Post Office, just across from Tokyo Station, is a popular spot that also overlooks the Shinkansen bullet train.

Marunouchi Nakadori Avenue

Located in the middle of Tokyo’s business district, Marunouchi Naka-dori Avenue, which connects Otemachi and Yurakucho, is one of the best shopping streets in Japan. Lined with sophisticated stores for adults, just walking along the street is an enjoyable experience.

Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace is the residence of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, the palace where various events are held, and the Imperial Household Agency buildings.
The remains of Edo Castle, which was the residence of the Tokugawa family, the East Garden of the Palace, where general visits are held, and a visit course that includes the Main Gate iron bridge (Nijubashi) are open to the public. Visitors can apply on the day of their visit (first-come-first-served basis), but advance application via the website is recommended.

The 5-km walkway in the outer gardens of the Imperial Palace is a mecca for runners. The course is easy for beginners to try, so it is recommended to enjoy a run around the Imperial Palace while traveling or on a business trip.

Lined with luxury brand stores and famous restaurants, Ginza is a popular spot for adults to stroll the streets.
In recent years, the area has become even more crowded with the opening of large-scale commercial facilities such as “GINZA SIX,” “GINZA PLACE,” and “Tokyu Plaza Ginza.

Kabuki-za (theatre in Tokyo)

The Kabuki-za Theater was established in 1889 and was reborn in 2013 along with the Kabuki-za Tower.

We recommend “one-act seats,” which allow even travelers with limited time to enjoy Kabuki performances in a casual manner. In addition, you can purchase Kabuki-related souvenirs such as food and sundries at the souvenir shop on the second basement floor, which is directly connected to Higashi-Ginza Station, even without a ticket.

Tsukiji Outside Market

Tsukiji is home to wholesalers and middlemen selling fresh foods and other items. The Tsukiji Outside Market is lined with approximately 460 stores specializing in a variety of foodstuffs, including tuna stores, fresh fish and shellfish stores, dried fish, dried bonito flakes, egg omelet, delicacies, fruit and vegetables, and processed food stores. There are also stores specializing in cutlery and a wide variety of cooking utensils, which are also frequented by professional chefs.

There are also numerous restaurants, including sushi and seafood bowls, to enjoy a meal. The Tsukiji Fish Market, with about 60 retail stores, and the Tsukiji Nippon Fishing Port Market, a direct market of products from various regions, are located nearby, making it a fun area to stroll around.

Nihonbashi (bridge)

The area around Nihonbashi, which was the starting point of the Tokaido and Nakasendo highways in the Edo period, has many buildings designated as important cultural properties, giving visitors a sense of history.

The current bridge was built in the Meiji era. Some of you may remember the statue of a kylin standing in the center of the bridge, as it appeared in the novel “The Wings of the Kirin,” which was made into a movie.
Cruising around the bridge by boat is also recommended.

Akihabara Electric Town

Akihabara is one of the world’s largest electric arcades, where all kinds of electronics-related products are sold.

Fuji Television’s headquarters building with its impressive sphere. This sphere is an observation deck that is open to the public. The sphere is open to the public and offers a 270-degree panoramic view of the Rinkai subcenter.

The Tokyo Grand Jingu Shrine is known as the “Ise Shrine of Tokyo.
