New buildings of note are opening one after another! Vibrant and trendy center of the city
Shibuya is the second largest city in the world in terms of passengers per station. In recent years, newly opened complexes such as “Shibuya Scramble Square” and “Shibuya Parco” have been lined up, and the area is once again attracting attention as the center of fashion, culture, and trends for young people.
1. The hottest and newest shopping spots
Shibuya Scramble Square

Shibuya Scramble Square was born in front of Shibuya Station on November 1, 2019. The complex consists of 2 basement floors to 45 floors + rooftop, and with a height of approximately 229.7 meters, it is one of the tallest buildings around Shibuya Station.
The commercial facility occupies the 2nd basement to the 14th floor and houses a total of 213 stores and restaurants. The spacious interior of the building is characterized by a fashionable, street-front atmosphere on the fashion floor.
On the restaurant and food floor, there are many stores that have opened for the first time in Shibuya and the Kanto area, as well as many new business model stores, including seven stores that have opened for the first time in Japan, such as “Josē Luis,” a Spanish restaurant that has been a favorite of citizens of Madrid, Spain, for more than 60 years! In addition, “SHIBUYA SKY” consists of three zones: the “SKY GATE” transitional space from the 14th to 45th floors, the “SKY STAGE” outdoor observation space, and the “SKY GALLERY” indoor observation corridor on the 46th floor. Visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city of Shibuya from approximately 230 meters above ground.

A total of 193 stores are scheduled to open. The first floor features high-end brands such as Gucci and Loewe like street stores, the sixth floor specializes in Japanese culture, including “Nintendo TOKYO” and “Pokemon Center Shibuya,” which were the talk of the town when they opened, with several hours of waiting time every day, and “Touken Ranbu Manya Honpo,” which is popular mainly among women. The 6th floor is dedicated to Japanese culture, including “Nintendo Tokyo” and “Pokemon Center Sibuya,” and the 8th floor is equipped with a movie theater and theater.
In addition, the basement floor, which is based on the concept of “food, music, and culture,” is a truly chaotic space where 21 restaurants, record stores, and festival goods stores are “jumbled” together.

After a day of shopping, you can fully enjoy the Tokyo atmosphere at the “sequence MIYASHITA PARK,” a park-style lifestyle hotel directly connected to MIYASHITA PARK.
When you go up to the rooftop, you will see an approximately 1,000-square-meter lawn, a place of relaxation. You may spend a relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you want to be active, try bouldering or skating.
Also, at “Shibuya Yokocho” on the first floor of Miyashita Park, visitors can taste local gourmet foods from all over Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa. The area is crowded every day with many events and festivals planned.

Commercial and office space will be concentrated around all 69 stores of “Tokyu Plaza Shibuya,” which has been reborn targeting mature adults.
One of the highlights is the rooftop garden “SHIBU NIWA,” which opened on the 17th floor and offers a panoramic view of the Shibuya area. Visitors can enjoy a luxurious view of the scramble crossing and the Shibuya cityscape while dining at restaurants and cafes, including “CÉ LA VI,” a comprehensive entertainment restaurant that opened for the first time in Japan.

In addition to fashion and cosmetics, it is a commercial complex with restaurants, cafes, and the musical theater “Tokyu Theater Orb,” and is divided into six areas.
The restrooms are also a must-see when you visit. Based on the concept of a “switch room,” meaning a place to switch on and off, or a place to switch between daily life and extraordinary life, the female staff gathered to create the best restroom in Japan. Each floor has a different design and background music, and the space is so unlike a restroom that it is sure to raise your spirits! The “air shower booth” that removes dust, spacious make-up room, fitting room, and other facilities show the meticulous attention to detail.

The large open first floor is a plaza where you can enjoy a relaxing meal while watching people pass by. In particular, check out “Kakuuchi Base POP UP SHIBUYA,” where you can enjoy more than 120 kinds of alcohol!
The second floor, based on the concept of “Shibuya Custom Street,” is lined with a variety of restaurants, including Italian, French, Japanese, and ethnic restaurants. statue of Hachiko (a dog)

The statue of Hachiko, which sits just outside the Hachiko Exit of JR Shibuya Station, is modeled after Hachiko in Akita Prefecture, who waited here for his master to return home from work in the 1920s and continued to wait for nine years after his death from illness.
It is now known as the most famous meeting place at Shibuya Station, with many people standing around Hachiko every day. The Shibuya Scramble Crossing is right in front of the statue, and the location makes it easy to get to Shibuya Center Gai and Shibuya Parco, so it is crowded at any time of the day, but especially in the evening, it gets even busier.

Shibuya 109

This is a shopping spot in Shibuya that attracts about 35,000 visitors on holidays. More than 100 stores, mainly fashion brands popular among young people, as well as accessory stores, cosmetic stores, cafes, and restaurants, are gathered here.
Although 109 used to have a strong impression of gal-type brands, nowadays, one of the highlights of the store is that each floor offers different styles of fashion, from cute to casual to sexy, and more. Some stores offer very inexpensive items, making it a great place to find a bargain.
One of the most talked about is Strawberry Fetish, Japan’s first strawberry candy specialty store, which opened in June 2019. Based on the strawberry candy found at festivals and other events, the shop’s popular toppings add a unique twist. Strawberries are also used in drinks and cakes, and the strawberry-filled space is sure to be a hit on SNS!

Shibuya Center-gai divides this area into six blocks from A to F, each with a variety of stores and restaurants. There are also many take-out stores, making it a great place to enjoy eating and drinking.
On the main street, where fast fashion and chain stores are concentrated, the hottest music is played from the speakers, and just walking around is sure to make you feel energetic! Large stores such as Tokyu Hands, Loft, and Shibuya Parco are also located on this Shibuya Center Street.

Shibuya Scramble Crossing

With more than 1,000 people crossing the street at any one time, the Shibuya Scramble Crossing is said to have the highest traffic volume in the world. 10 lanes and 5 pedestrian crossings intersect, and the sight of people crossing the street simultaneously as soon as the light turns green is breathtaking, making the intersection very popular among overseas tourists.
The buildings surrounding the intersection are equipped with large screens and are a popular place for announcements of hot products, movies, and animations. The collaboration of the buildings and people passing by makes you want to take pictures, but the traffic signal changes quickly, so make it quick and cross the street. During events such as the countdown on New Year’s Eve and Halloween at the end of October, the area attracts so many people that it becomes difficult to pass through.
