The shrine is located adjacent to Sensoji Temple. It is said to have been built between the late Heian and Kamakura periods. The shrine enshrines the Hinokuma brothers, who discovered the Kannon statue, and its founder, Hajinomatsuchi no Mikoto (the founder of the shrine).

Ushijima Shrine

National Museum of Western Art

The museum consists of the main building, designed by Le Corbusier, which incorporates a “pilotis” with only pillars on the first floor and a “Museum of Infinite Growth,” a spiral-shaped flow line around the exhibition rooms, and the new wing, which was expanded. Western art from the late Middle Ages to the early 20th century, mainly from the Matsukata Collection, is exhibited. Former residence of Masaoka Shiki, a place of literary transmission in the Meiji era

Shikiaman (hereditary title; orig. one of the two highest such titles, later demoted to sixth highest of eight)

Masaoka Shiki moved here in 1894, and used it as his sickroom and study, and as a place for Shunkai poetry meetings, where modern haiku and tanka poetry innovations took place. It was rebuilt in 1950. Designated as a Tokyo Metropolitan Historic Site in 1952.
